The Foreign Trade (Development & Regulations) Amendment Act, 2010.the Foreign Trade (Regulation) Rules, 1993 and the Foreign Trade Regulation) amendment Rules, 2015.
- Reserve Bank Of India (RBI): a clearance or certificate before the goods arrive, under RBI/2014-15/207 A.P. (DIR Series) Circular No.25 dated-03.09.2014.
"*Import under this CTI is restricted and allowed only through nominated agencies as notified by rbi (in case of banks) and DGFT(for other agencies) and ifsca(for qualified jewellers through india international bullion exchange).however import under advance authorisation and supply of gold directly by foreign buyers to exporters under para 4.45 of ftp against export orders would continue to be governed by the relevant ftp provisions; as per DGFT NTFN 36/2015-20 DT 18.12.2019; also ref CBIC CUS circ 23/2018 DT 23.07.18 & 27/2016 DT 10.06.16* the expression - gold in any form - includes gold in any form above 22 carats under chapter-71 of ITC (HS),2017, schedule-i (import policy).refer s.o.67(e) and DGFT NTFN 49/2015-20 dated 02-09-2021.*"

Import policy (DGFT ITC(HS))
- Restricted under DGFT 49/2015-2020 of 5 Jan 2022.
- Condition: Import is allowed only through nominated agencies as notified by RBI (in case of banks), DGFT (for other agencies) and IFSCA (for qualified jewellers through India International Bullion Exchange).
Notes on these rates
- The statutory rates come from a one-time snapshot of the Indian Trade Portal (CBIC's tariff of 30.06.2025). Changes the Finance Act 2026 made to the tariff from 1 May 2026 are not in it.
- Notification 45/2025-Customs (Table I, S.No. 202) sets a standard rate of 10% for these goods. The statutory rate, 10%, is lower, so that is what customs charges.
- Table I of 45/2025-Customs also has 12 entries that cover this code for named goods or on a condition (for example S.No. 192: 10%, condition 3 and 22). They lower the duty only if the importer meets the condition, so they are not in the totals.
- IGST comes from our archived GST table, which still has the 12% and 28% slabs, so it may pre-date the GST rate changes of 22 September 2025. Check the current rate.
- AIDC, Health Cess and the SWS exemptions are read from notifications 11/2021-Customs, 08/2020-Customs and 11/2018-Customs as amended (to 16/2026-Customs), and the notifications that lower AIDC for a while. SWS is 10% of BCD, AIDC and Health Cess together (Finance Act 2018, s.110), never of anti-dumping, countervailing or safeguard duty or IGST.
- AIDC is 5% (S.No. 15G of 11/2021-Customs, as amended by 16/2026-Customs). 3 more entries cover this code for named goods or on a condition, for example S.No. 15B of 11/2021-Customs (Silver or gold dore bar, content not exceeding 95%, on conditions: 4.35%; on conditions (dore bars)); not in the totals.
- AIDC is Nil where exemption from BCD is claimed under advance authorisation, an EOU scheme or the notifications 11/2021-Customs lists (S.Nos. 17A to 20, among them some trade agreements); the totals do not assume one.
- SWS is exempt under S.No. 56A of 11/2018-Customs, as amended by 16/2026-Customs.
- Not included: GST compensation cess, anti-dumping, countervailing and safeguard duties, and exemptions or concessions such as end-use, EOU/SEZ or project imports.
- This does not check whether the import is allowed (DGFT import policy, licences, quality-control orders). The HS code explorer shows the import policy.
- This is an estimate, not an assessment. Confirm the duty with your customs broker or ICEGATE's duty calculator before you price a deal.

What buyers pay abroad: import duty in the US, UK, EU and Australia for 7118 90, and China's below.
China: the same goods (7118 90)
China shares the first 6 digits with India and splits them into 10-digit codes of its own: 2 in force and 1 expired under 7118 90. Exporters see what China charges Indian goods; importers see the rebate and licences their Chinese supplier deals with.
| China code | Goods | Duty on Indian goods | MFN | Import VAT | Export rebate | Licences |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7118.90.00.10 | Gold coin金质铸币 | 0%MFN rate (no APTA concession on this line) | 0% | 13% | 0% | J |
| 7118.90.00.90 | Other coins其他硬币 | 0%MFN rate (no APTA concession on this line) | 0% | 13% | 0% | None |
- India is a member of the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA). With an APTA certificate of origin, Indian goods pay China's APTA rate where the line has one; China applies the lower of that and its provisional rate.
- The export VAT rebate is what China refunds its own exporters. When China cuts it, Chinese export prices tend to rise.
